April 27, 2026
What hit Commerce.
On the evening of April 27, storms crossing eastern North Texas produced numerous reports of large hail up to teacup size. The National Weather Service in Fort Worth reported the largest stones in northeast Dallas, Rockwall and Hunt counties. Read the NWS summary.
Hail that size bruises and fractures asphalt shingles, knocks the granules off, cracks vents and dents gutters and flashing. Much of it can't be seen from the driveway, and a bruised shingle can take months to start leaking. A roof that looks fine from the street can still carry a valid claim.
Many homeowner policies limit how long after a storm you can report damage, so check your policy's deadline instead of waiting for a stain on the ceiling. A free inspection tells you whether there's a claim before the window closes.
Commerce roofs
Older homes, lots of rentals.
The typical Commerce home dates to 1975, so many roofs in town are on their second or third round, with older decking and flashing underneath that deserve a look while the roof is open. Commerce is home to East Texas A&M University, and about six in ten occupied homes are rented, so a lot of storm work here is for owners who don't live under the roof and need the damage documented for them.
After a hailstorm
An out-of-town roofer should earn your trust. Here's how to check us.
Big storms bring crews from all over Texas, and not all of them stay to answer for their work. These are the questions to ask anyone who knocks, and our answers.
Know where they're based
Kind Roofing is at 80 Rainey St in Austin. We aren't local to Commerce and won't pretend to be: we're working here because of the storm.

Our Google reviewsAsk for proof of insurance
Texas doesn't license roofers, so insurance is the check that matters. We're fully insured and send a certificate of insurance on request.
Never let anyone waive your deductible
Texas law bars contractors from paying or waiving your insurance deductible. A roofer who offers is putting your claim at risk.
Get the scope in writing first
Before any work starts you should have a written estimate you can read and hand to your adjuster. That's how every one of our jobs starts.
Don't pay the whole job up front
Be careful with anyone who asks for the full price before work begins, or who wants you to sign your insurance check over to them on the spot.

What Commerce homeowners ask us first.
Do you really work in Commerce, TX?
Yes. Kind Roofing is based in Austin, and since the April 2026 hail we've been inspecting and repairing roofs in Commerce. Call or text (512) 766-9755, or use the form on this page, and we'll set a time for a free inspection.
Is the inspection really free?
Yes. We walk the roof, photograph what we find and put it in writing. No charge and no obligation, and if the roof doesn't need work, we'll tell you that too.
Will insurance pay for my roof after the hail?
Sometimes. If a covered event like hail caused the damage and your policy covers it, often yes, minus your deductible. Insurance does not pay for a roof that simply wore out. You open the claim (only the policyholder can file), we meet the adjuster on your roof, and we build a written scope that matches your policy.
Is there a deadline to file a hail claim?
Many homeowner policies limit how long after a storm you can report damage. Check your policy's deadline rather than waiting for a leak: hail-bruised shingles can take months to start leaking, and the claim is about the date of the storm, not the date of the drip.
I own a rental in Commerce. Can you work with me if I'm not there?
Yes. Every inspection is documented with photos, so you can see the damage without driving out, and the written scope goes to you and your adjuster.
How much does a new roof cost in Commerce?
It depends on the size of the roof, its pitch and the material, so we don't quote prices before we've seen it. On an approved claim, your cost is usually your deductible. You'll have a written estimate before anything starts.
